What is Blockboard?
Blockboard is a sandwich panel: a core of wooden strips laid side by side, glued and pressed between veneer faces. Because the core runs in one direction it is stiff along its length and, unlike particle board, it holds screws at the edge — which is why door manufacturers and furniture makers have used it for decades.
Our blockboard uses finger-jointed falcata (albasia) strips, kiln-dried to 8–12 % and calibrated before facing. The result is a panel around 420–480 kg/m³: considerably lighter than plywood of the same thickness, with a face flat enough to take veneer, melamine paper or paint.

Why buyers choose our Blockboard
Lighter than plywood at the same thickness
An 18 mm blockboard weighs meaningfully less than an 18 mm plywood panel, which matters for door blanks and for container economics.
Holds screws at the edge
The strip core grips fixings along the panel edge — the property that makes blockboard the traditional choice for door stiles and framed furniture.
Flat, and it stays flat
Strip cores are less prone to the spring and twist that show up in thin plywood, provided the moisture content is controlled. Ours is dried and calibrated before pressing.
Face veneer to your specification
Okoume for a pale furniture face, poplar for painting, birch for a harder surface. We quote the face as a separate line so you can see exactly what you are buying.
