What is Pine Plywood?

Pine plywood uses pine veneers — most commonly radiata pine from New Zealand and Chile, or Russian pine — bonded into a multi-ply panel. The grain is pronounced and the knots are part of the look, so it is used both as a structural panel and as a decorative one where a natural timber appearance is wanted.

Pine's practical advantage is screw-holding: it grips fixings far better than poplar, which makes it the preferred panel for crates, pallets, site carpentry and any application where brackets are screwed on and off repeatedly.

Why buyers choose our Pine Plywood

Screw-holding that survives re-use

Pine grips screws and staples far better than low-density species, which is why crate and pallet makers specify it even where cheaper panels are available.

WBP option for exterior crates

For machinery crates that sit on a dock in the rain, we bond with WBP phenolic and seal the edges.

Knot filling on request

For visible applications we can fill and sand knots so the panel takes paint or clear coat evenly.

Honest grading

Pine is a natural product; knots and colour variation are inherent. We grade to B/C, BB/CC and C/D and show you photographs of the actual grade before shipment.

Frequently asked questions

Does pine plywood hold screws better than poplar?
Yes, noticeably. Pine is denser and has better fibre strength, so screws resist pull-out and can be removed and re-driven several times. On crate and pallet work this is the deciding factor.
Is pine plywood suitable for outdoor use?
Only with WBP phenolic glue, sealed edges and a protective coating. Standard E1 or MR-bonded pine plywood is an interior product and will delaminate if left exposed to weather.
What do the grades B/C and C/D mean?
The letters describe face and back quality, from best to worst. B/C has a good face with minor knots and a back with larger knots and colour variation. C/D is a utility grade for packaging and construction where appearance is irrelevant.
