What is Birch Plywood?

Birch plywood is made entirely from birch veneers, with no poplar or combi core hidden inside. Because every ply is the same species, the panel behaves uniformly: it machines cleanly, holds an edge, takes screws without splitting and stays flat after cutting. That predictability is why furniture factories, CNC shops and musical instrument makers specify all-birch rather than a mixed core.

We supply birch plywood in 3–30 mm with B/BB, S/BB and BB/BB face grades, in the standard 1220 × 2440 mm sheet and the 1525 × 1525 mm square that Baltic-birch users expect. Glue is E1 urea or WBP phenolic depending on the application, and toy-grade batches are produced to EN 71-3 on request.

Why buyers choose our Birch Plywood

Genuinely all-birch

'Birch plywood' in the trade sometimes means a birch face over a poplar core. Ours is birch through the thickness. Ask for a cross-section photo of the batch you are quoted — we send one with every offer.

Grades that match the job

B/BB for visible furniture faces, S/BB where one side is hidden, BB/BB for painted or laminated work. Buying a higher grade than the application needs is the most common way buyers overspend.

Clean CNC and laser edges

Uniform density means the laser cuts at a consistent speed and the edge chars evenly. Mixed-core panels cut unevenly and produce a ragged kerf.

Toy-grade documentation

EN 71-3 heavy-metal migration testing can be arranged for orders destined for toy or children's furniture production, with the test report issued against your order number.

Applications

Furniture and cabinetry

Drawer boxes, carcasses, table tops and visible structural parts.

Laser cutting and CNC routing

Signage, decorative panels, model making and jigs.

Children's furniture and toys

Where EN 71-3 documentation is required.

Speaker cabinets

High density and uniform structure give predictable acoustic behaviour.

Boat and caravan interiors

With WBP glue for humid environments.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between B/BB and S/BB birch plywood?
B/BB has a B-grade face on both sides: small, tight, colour-matched patches permitted on both faces. S/BB has a sound, unpatched face on one side and a BB face on the other, so it suits work where only one face is visible. Both are structurally identical — only the face appearance changes.
Is your birch plywood suitable for laser cutting?
Yes, and it is one of the most common uses. All-birch construction gives a consistent cut speed and a clean edge. For laser work we recommend E1 urea glue rather than phenolic, because phenolic resin produces more smoke and a darker char.
Do you supply 1525 × 1525 mm panels?
Yes. The 1525 × 1525 mm square is standard for Baltic-birch users in Europe and is held in the same thickness range. Confirm the size on your enquiry because it is produced to order rather than stocked continuously.
What is the density of birch plywood?
Around 680–720 kg/m³, noticeably heavier than poplar (≈520 kg/m³) or albasia (≈300 kg/m³). That weight is the trade-off for the strength and screw-holding that furniture makers want.
