What is Brown Film Faced Plywood?

Brown film faced plywood uses the same construction as black film — a WBP phenolic-bonded plywood core faced with resin-impregnated paper — but with a brown film that costs slightly less and is the conventional choice for general building work in many markets.

It is the sensible specification when the formwork schedule is short, when panels will be used for two or three structures rather than a full high-rise, or when the buyer is supplying a mixed portfolio of small contractors. Performance per pour is close to black film; total cost per project is lower.

Why buyers choose our Brown Film Faced Plywood

Lower cost, same adhesive system

The saving comes from film colour and core selection, not from downgrading the glue. Every brown film panel we ship is WBP phenolic, so it still survives wet site conditions.

Right-sized for shorter projects

If a project needs six pours, paying for a 220 g heavy-duty panel is wasted money. Brown 120 g is priced for exactly this profile of work.

Available in the same thickness range

12 to 21 mm, so a buyer can standardise on one supplier for both premium and economical formwork.

Mixed containers welcome

Brown and black film can be consolidated in one container, which is useful for distributors serving contractors with different budgets.

Frequently asked questions

Is brown film faced plywood weaker than black?
No. Film colour is cosmetic plus a small cost difference. Both use the same phenolic resin system and the same plywood core. What actually determines strength is core species, glue type and thickness — all of which we specify on the offer.
How many times can brown film be reused?
Typically 8–12 pours with 120 g/m² film. Sealing the cut edges and stripping panels carefully rather than dropping them will push it toward the upper end.
Can I mix black and brown film in one container?
Yes. Mixed containers are common for distributors, and we will pallet each specification separately with its own marking so your warehouse can receive them without sorting.
